Each department at Hampshire College contributes to the collaborative culture of the organization and plays an important role in the success of the College. The mission of the office of human resources is to provide guidance and support to our academic and administrative offices on all college policies, procedures, and practices related to employment and human resources. Our core services and competencies include recruitment, hiring, compensation analysis, benefits administration, performance planning, training/development, employee relations, information system management, as well as compliance with state and federal employment laws and regulations. As part of the human resources team, you will be instrumental in the department achieving its mission and goals!

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The senior director of human resources provides leadership and overall strategic direction in all areas related to human resources functions to include the effective utilization and support of college employees. The senior director will work with the administration including the president and senior administrators, school deans, faculty, and staff to seek advice and to build support for changes in and enhancements to existing human resource programs and practices. The senior director will consult with senior management to develop and align comprehensive human resources with the mission and values of Hampshire College and will consult with members of the community in all areas of human resources management including effective workforce staffing, employee relations, benefits administration, fiscal accountability, and quality improvement. The senior director will provide leadership in facilitating communication, decision-making, trust, employee professional development, and employee relations; all toward enhancing the overall effectiveness of the College. The senior director will provide leadership as the College increasingly seeks to promote inclusion, equity and diversity within our community coordinating with the senior vice president of justice, equity, and anti-racism on tasks, initiatives, and goals. The senior director will ensure that Hampshire College complies with all state and federal laws in areas such as employment, labor relations, and benefits. The senior director acts as deputy director of the campus Title IX program and the ADA coordinator for employees.

The senior director of human resources is a senior member of the finance & administration division, and plays a critical role in supporting the division, and the College, in communications and leadership. In this capacity, the senior director may, from time-to-time attend Senior Leadership Team (SLT) meetings, should, when necessary, present updates to SLT about the status of major projects and initiatives in human resources, and should be consulted on campus wide communications that impact employee compensation, retention, benefits and other human resource issues.

As a member of both the HR team and the division of finance and administration, this position is essential to employee and community service and experience. The incumbent must feel comfortable working in an often fast-paced organizational framework with shifting and evolving responsibilities. This position collaborates with other HR staff, and a variety of other college offices to meet the department goals, and further the mission of the department and the College. This position participates as a committed member and leader of the human resources team in college and division committee work, projects, meetings, events, and overall community development. Availability to work occasional nights and weekends may be required.

Alternatives to formal education and paid work experience may be considered as equivalent qualifications to include military service/training, volunteering, activism, and other non-traditional programs and experiences related to the position.
