Job Title: System Protection Engineer II

Offered Wage: $90,001.60/year

Location: This position is fully remote and reports to TRC Environmental Corporation's HQ in Windsor, CT; candidates may work from a home office anywhere in the United States.

Duties: As part of the System Protection and Automation Engineering group, works closely with a diverse team of System Protection and Automation and Integration Engineers on projects for utility, generation, and municipal clients across the country. Performs fault analysis and develops relay settings and related documentation for protective relays and control intelligent electronic devices (IEDs). Adheres to client requirements and internal company Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) practices. Interfaces with clients, other company departments, outside consultants, contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers on technically-related matters. Works collaboratively with the Project Engineering Team Lead or Technical Reviewer on assigned projects. Works closely with other Engineering and Project Management team members to coordinate overall project deliverables and assists in maintaining project budgets and schedules. Responsible for power systems analysis, protection coordination, protective relay settings, and documentation development and review for a variety of equipment and applications. Evaluates equipment specifications and the application of new equipment based on customer and industry standards. Develops custom logic and control schemes and prepares project scopes and concepts. Completes protection coordination studies and sets calculations. Promotes an efficient flow of information and ensures complete and accurate record keeping. Responsible for effective project planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities. Ensures the effective technical support of department needs and requirements. Assists field personnel during testing and commissioning by answering questions and ensuring acceptable test results.


Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) plus two (2) years of experience in performing power systems and fault current analysis, protection coordination, protective relay settings, and documentation development and review for distribution controllers and equipment.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated expertise (DE) preparing or reviewing project scope for distribution system modelling and analysis, and reviewing concepts for circuit accuracy and completeness leveraging IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NFPA standards;

  • DE performing short circuit and coordination calculations and AC and DC load calculations and leveraging utility operating systems and practices, and utility protection and design standards;

  • DE designing metering single-line and one and three-line elementary diagrams, AC and DC schematics, and wiring and interconnect drawings for electrical protection systems; and,

    • DE interpreting and evaluating equipment specifications and the application of new equipment according to customer and industry standards.
