Job Description
Everyone Is a Caregiver

At UMass Memorial Health, everyone is a caregiver - regardless of their title or responsibilities. Exceptional patient care, academic excellence and leading-edge research make UMass Memorial the premier health system of Central Massachusetts, and a place where we can help you build the career you deserve. We are more than 16,000 employees, working together as one health system in a relentless pursuit of healing for our patients, community and each other. And everyone, in their own unique way, plays an important part, every day.

The Hanshaw Pediatric Hospitalist service at UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center, the clinical affiliate of UMassChan Medical School in Worcester, MA, is pleased to announce an opening for TWO Pediatric Hospitalist positions, a 1.0 FTE, as well as a 0.5 FTE position, to join our five-physician group. Clinical responsibilities include attending on a busy inpatient ward service, where census per hospitalist runs 8-10 patients/day. All patients are covered by our excellent Pediatric and Med/Peds residents, and UMassChan medical students are involved with most patients. The Pediatric Hospitalists at UMass also cover our sedation service, primary involving our oncology and surgical patients. Prior experience with sedation is helpful but not required. There are ample research opportunities, as we are the only tertiary care medical center in Central Massachusetts. Opportunities for teaching and mentoring, both within GME and the medical school, which is attached to our hospital, are essentially limitless.

BC/BE in Pediatric Hospital Medicine is strongly preferred. There is flexibility along the 0.5 FTE- 1.0 FTE spectrum, as at least 2 hospitalists will be needed to cover 1.5 FTE. The positions may also be attractive for those seeking a less-than 1.0 FTE clinical position to augment teaching or research.

The Department of Pediatrics is a major department within UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center and UMass Chan Medical School with over 80 faculty members and 80 staff (e.g., nurse practitioners, physician assistants and support staff), a thriving pediatric residency program, and several subspecialty fellowship training programs. Located in Worcester, UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center is the only children's hospital in Central Massachusetts. The Children's Medical Center is a safety-net hospital for children in Central Massachusetts - over 60% of patients are covered by Medicaid and almost 40% of patients are of color (i.e., BIPOC). Children's Medical Center providers are committed to the mission, work to provide care that truly surrounds the family and that is infused with cultural humility and with a health equity lens for all.
